These two 1996 Barolos catch Burlotto and proprietor Fabio Alessandria in the early days of a journey that has catapulted Burlotto - one of Barolo's most historic estates - back into the stratosphere after several decades of essentially being missing from the collective mindset of wine lovers. At the time, the Barolo Cannubi saw quite a bit of French oak, which caused it to both be very different in style from the other Barolos in the range, and to age at a much faster clip than the flagship Barolo Monvigliero. In addition to these wines, Burlotto also made a Barolo Neirane in 1996. Unfortunately I did not taste that wine.
