Christine Vernay described 2008 as a very tough vintage, especially for syrah. "Thankfully, it was an excellent vintage for Condrieu," she added. "The wines are very pure and crystalline, but also open and expressive, so that they'll be good to drink throughout their lives. Unfortunately the production was small, like with the syrah." Vernay's red wines have been going from strength to strength over the last few vintages and Christine says that she seeks "to emphasize the elegance of the northern Rhone, not power and enormite. I hope that our experience as white wine specialists, where finesse is paramount, informs our syrah."
