"It was very dry in April, May and June," said Geoffrey Choppin de Janvry, admitting that a couple of this estate's vineyards suffered from drought at the beginning. The harvest began on September 2 and was finished in four days. The average potential alcohol level was 12% and the wines will be bottled at 13%. The 2011s were still in barrels at the time of my November visit, the malos having finished by mid-August. All of the estate's premier crus are aged in one-third new barriques with medium toast. Previously, added Choppin de Janvry, he used a higher percentage of new barrels and a lighter toast. Yields here were in the modest 30 to 35 hectoliters-per-hectare range in 2011, a bit higher than those of the previous harvest.
