"I'm slow to judge things but right now I think that 2004 was better for us than 2005," Tom Dehlinger told me as we started our tasting. "In 2004 we finished picking our pinot by September 4th, so we missed the big heat spikes." Dehlinger also commented that as time goes by he is more and more pleased with the Wente clone of chardonnay and has become a bit less enamored of Dijon clone 95. He noted that he began selling off his press wine beginning with the '02 vintage. Also recommended: 2004 Claret Russian River Valley (86).
