"We really should have picked pinot noir before the heat spell in late September, before the alcohol levels went up sharply," noted Tom Dehlinger. "A similar thing happened here in 1980." But the late-ripening varieties were less affected by the September heat and, in the end, came in especially late: October 20 through 22 for cabernet and the first two days of November for syrah.
