Philippe Roty describes 2010 as a vintage with "good energy and acidity. It's a classic vintage with good balance, and ripe tannins--a lot like 2001." Sorting was mostly to eliminate underripe grapes, said Roty, adding that there was more rot in 2011. The wines were easier to extract than the 2008s, Roty noted, due in part to the slow start to the fermentations during very cool harvest conditions (the Rotys began on September 25). Total maceration times were a few days longer than usual. The pHs here are rarely high, and in 2010 they are typically in the low 3.3 range, according to Philippe. The best of these 2010s boast superb precision and energy, but this is a set of wines that will need considerable patience.
