Winemaker Toni Bodenstein reported an unusually early flowering and a cool September, which resulted in a particularly long vegetation period in 2007. The extended and labor-intensive harvest, which lasted from October 10 through November 17, brought full physiological maturity and, thanks to strict manual selection, perfectly healthy fruit that clearly expresses the differences between the various Prager sites. Incidentally, the young head-pruned vines in the Achleiten plot brought their first crop in this vintage and have been bottled as the Gruner Veltliner Smaragd Wachstum Bodenstein. This wine is the result of a collection of more than a hundred different clonal selections of gruner veltliner trained in the old style on posts without trellises.
