I tasted many Peay wines during my last visit and the months preceding. The Peay team, led by brothers Andy and Nick Peay and winemaker Vanessa Wong, turned out an absolutely brilliant set of 2021s. Every wine is a joy to taste. The wines are fresh, vibrant and delineated, starting with a Viognier that is terrific and also avoids some of the angularity I felt was at times penalizing in the past. As always, the various Estate wines are thematic cuvées instead of single vineyard or single block wines. In 2021, the selections are especially well-defined and distinctive. The 2020s, products of a much more challenging vintage, are also very good, except the Syrah La Bruma, which is a pretty awkward wine.
