The Peays took the drastic step of recalling the entire production of their 2007 Pomarium pinot noir after they began tasting the bottled wine and found it "a little too Burgundian," as Andy Peay described it. They had the wine tested and a higher brettanomyces number came up than they were comfortable with. "Actually, any brett at all is bad news," Peay added. I tasted the wine and while I can see the Burgundy analogy, I did not find it meaty or metallic, much less dirty. These 2007s are the strongest set of wines I've seen from Peay so far. Note that this vintage marks the re-introduction of a straight estate pinot noir, which Andy Peay said was so that the winery could have "an introductory wine available at a friendlier price and in greater quantity than the single-site pinots."
