I found Joe Donelan, his sons Tripp and Cushing, and winemaker Joe Nielsen, in good spirits when I stopped by earlier this year. The October fires were brutal for Donelan, as their prized Obsidian Vineyard was one of the very few sites that burned completely. Moreover, the winery is just across the road from the Coffee Park residential neighborhood that suffered some of the most horrific devastation during the fires. As for the wines, they are all terrific. Yields for the 2015s are down sharply across the board, as they were pretty much everywhere.
