I was deeply impressed with the wines I tasted at Donelan this past January. Winemaker Joe Nielsen wasted no time in getting Donelan back on track with the first wines he has made from start to finish. The 2013 Syrahs in particular are superb. After last year's disappointing showing, Joe Donelan and his sons could have decided not to show their wines, as sometimes happens. Instead, fueled by their intense conviction and competitive drive, the Donelans had absolutely no qualms about presenting all of their new releases. The recent acquisition of the highly coveted Obsidian Vineyard in Knights Valley is a further testament to the Donelans' long-term vision and commitment to the future. Joe Donelan and his team will receive serious recognition for these wines. They deserve every bit of it.
