It was a brief visit to Rossignol-Trapet in Gevrey-Chambertin, their winery located opposite Denis Bachelet. David Rossignol, who runs the estate with his brother Nicolas, told me that they practiced two green harvests before véraison, the first to remove the green berries and the second to even out bunches per vine. Picking was between September 15 and 23, a little later than others, using 50% whole bunch with no pigeage, plus a light pressing at around 0.25 bars since the skins were fragile and they wanted to avoid any rusticity. As usual, natural yeasts were used and everything was destemmed. Yields are similar to those in 2022. This is a Domaine that can over-perform in some vintages, as testified by performances in recent Burgfest blind tastings. That said, I felt that this was a vintage that needed maybe a little more maceration and consequently adjudged some cuvées missing some body and grip, occasionally blurring the differentiation between climats. That said, their Chambertin is well worth seeking out as it remains more keenly priced than others.
