"Two thousand-eighteen is basically divided into halves," Alberto Cordero di Montezemolo told me. "The first part of the year was enormously rainy. That was also the case in 2014, but at least we were able to get into the vineyards. In 2018 we had to do many treatments manually, and that is never as efficient as being able to work with tractors. We have never had so much Peronospora. Then, the second half of the year was warm and dry through to harvest." As usual, the Gattera and Enrico IV were aged in cask for 18 months, while the Monfalletto was aged in wood of various sizes and given more time in oak, because it is a much larger blend that takes longer to assemble.
