Renato Vacca releases his Barbarescos a year or two later than most of his colleagues, which in theory should make the wines more accessible. For critical tasting, though, I find the wines actually harder to taste as I see them once they have started to shut down in bottle as opposed to right after bottling, when wines are typically far more expressive. With a bit of air, though, the wines do start to open up nicely. As always, the Barbarescos spend two full years in cask. I find the Cantina del Pino Barbarescos really need at least a few years in bottle to be at their best.
