Herbert Weis is the very busy proprietor of a Mertesdorf hotel and restaurant that bear his family name as well as of the von Beulwitz estate, which he acquired in 1982 and runs in a very hands-on way. The wines can sometimes rival the Ruwer's best, although the challenges of 2014 resulted in a collection weak by the winery’s standards. Weis expressed satisfaction with having achieved yields "just slightly above average," but it's possible that the seeds of certain somewhat diffuse as well as occasionally fungal Rieslings lie precisely in the relative leniency at harvest that those yields reflect. Picking began here in the last week of September in response to the effects of rain coupled with relatively warm nights.
