There's plenty to like in this set of new releases from Fred Scherrer. As always, the wines are done in a very hands-off style that confers a sense of frankness that is palpable. Native ferments and minimal handling are the rules. Aging in wood is on the long side, about 21 months for the Chardonnays and 32-33 months in wood. That can introduce a slightly oxidative character, as is the case with the 2019 Pinots, which are more savory and earthy in profile than the 2018s. The Zinfandels and Syrahs are especially of note this year.
