One of the benefits of the virtual tastings that have become normal in this time of a pandemic is the greater perspective that can emerge with some distance. These new releases from Fred Scherrer are simply fabulous. It’s hard to believe this small winery remains pretty much under the radar. Long aging in barrel, especially for the Pinots, and a distinctly Old-World sensibility gives these wines tremendous character and a very specific style that stands far apart from the mainstream in Sonoma today. Readers who have not tasted these wines owe it to themselves to do so.
