Celia Welch crafted two extraordinary wines at Scarecrow in 2015. Sadly, production is down by a punishing 50%, the combined effects of bad weather during flowering and the redeveloping of a number of parcels. Welch has lowered the oak influence in these wines, and, together with vineyard manager Mike Wolf, moved the vineyard towards dry farming, which was possible for the first time in 2015. Scarecrow is one of the most pedigreed sites in Napa Valley. I can hardly wait to see what the future brings here.
