Scarecrow turned out one of great, great wines of 2011. I was fortunate to taste it twice recently. Or, more accurately, I tasted one bottle and drank another. The all-star team led by Winemaker Celia Welch and Vineyard Manager Mike Wolf made all the right calls. Of course, Scarecrow is also a magical site, one of the best in Napa Valley. In 2011, all those elements came together for what is a truly unforgettable Cabernet Sauvignon of the highest level.

I am not sure I will able to do justice to the Scarecrow 2011s. The wines are flat-out stunning. Earlier this year I had a chance to taste every vintage of Scarecrow. There is no doubt in my mind 2011 will go down as one of the very best vintages ever made here. Vineyard Manager Mike Wolf and Winemaker Celia Welch have done a fabulous job for proprietors Bret and Mimi DeBlasio. According to Welch, the key to vintage was dropping half the fruit during the summer. Whatever they did, Wolf and Welch made two of the greatest 2011s at Scarecrow.
