There is a lot to like in these new and upcoming releases from Paitin. The Pasquero-Elia family has been on a roll of late. The bottled 2021s turned out quite well, although the Basarin looks to be the outlier. I also found much to like in the 2022 Barbarescos, wines that show promise in a brutally hard year. The Paitin Barbarescos, especially the top selections, have long been notable for their structure and power. That characterization may need to be refined somewhat as the range expands to wines outside the family’s Bricco di Neive home. For now, these are Barbarescos that marry classic structure with contemporary polish. It’s a style that is quite successful here. Readers will also want to pay attention to the entry-level offerings, as they are terrific.
