There is a lot going on at Montepeloso. It looks like proprietor Fabio Chiarellotto will finally get his new cellar, which will be located on the same piece of land where his second set of Cabernet Sauvignon vines lie, just a few kilometers outside of Suvereto. The Montepeloso 2010s are superb wines. Chiarellotto defines 2010 as a year marked by wide diurnal shifts that gave the wines a firm sense of structure. In my view, the 2010s bring together intense fruit and equally incisive tannin. I wouldn't plan on opening bottles anytime soon, even if the wines are magnificent. I also tasted three single-clone 2012 Sangioveses from barrel that will probably be bottled separately. The best of those wines are totally striking, and I don't use those words lightly.
