Matt Trevisan told me that one of the upsides to the craziness of 2020 was that he, like everybody else, was forced to spend more time at home, meaning in his vineyards and in his cellar, rather than working the market. Trevisan is, by his own admission, detail-oriented to a fault (he’s also an airplane pilot, so that’s a good trait) and his wines, which are always complex blends, have long shown it. This year’s set of releases comprises both 2018s and 2017s, which made for an interesting tasting comparison. While the 2017s show the power of the year, there’s also a welcome degree of youthful restraint in play. The 2018s are a huge success and I have to count them as among the very best wines that I have ever had here.
