Matt Trevisan’s expressive 2017s are as strong a group of wines as I’ve tasted here, combining power and elegance with a sure hand. An inveterate blender and always curious, the thoughtful Trevisan said that he’s endlessly “fine-tuning things in the cellar to allow this special place to come through in the wines as clearly as possible.” His estate’s 54 acres of vines in the Willow Creek district provide roughly 90% of the fruit he uses for his changing collection of releases, which is roughly 7–10 different wines per vintage. Unfortunately for the wider market, almost all of Linne Calodo’s production is spoken for by mailing-list customers and visitors to the modern tasting room, right off Highway 46, although they do have a healthy presence on the wine lists of the top restaurants in the region as well.
