2011 Hochheimer Kirchenstuck Riesling Erstes Gewachs

Over the past five vintages, Gunter Kunstler has re-established his position at the top of the pecking order in the Rheingau's hierarchy, in particular for his dry rieslings. Having first acquired the Weiss Erd vineyard in neighboring Kostheim, he has now expanded to Rudesheim at the opposite end of the valley, where weathered slate rather than chalky clay soils hold sway. With time, they should give more ample voice to the crisp, pure style that he has perfected in Hochheim. More important for the consumer, though, even the entry-level wines from this estate are a pleasure to drink.
