Few producers have been as consistent over so many years as this world-famous estate in Wehlen. With more than 50 vintages under his belt, Manfred Prüm is not only the grand old man of the region, but also a source of inspiration for the current generation of winemakers. I was at first a little perplexed when I tasted the 2012s, but each has matured in textbook fashion. Of the 15 rieslings he presented, 12 garnered at least 91 points--and the "lowly" kabinett without even a vineyard designation is already better than the finest bottling from many neighboring estates. I still dream of the 2010s and 2005s, but this vintage will also write history.
