This is an impressive set of 2012 Barolos from Ferruccio Grimaldi, relative to both the vintage as well as to historical norms here. The 2012 saw 8-10 days on skins in rotary fermenters before being moved into barrel to finish their sugars and begin malolactic fermentation. From there, the wines spent a year in oak, on their lees, with no racking, and then completed their aging in cask. The gradual decreasing of new French oak has done these Barolos a world of good.
