Given the quality of his wines, I am amazed at how under the radar Ferruccio Grimaldi remains within the Barolo landscape. Grimaldi excels with juicy, fruit-driven Barolos endowed with terrific balance and harmony. As delicious as the wines are young, they have also developed gracefully in bottle. The straight Barolo is aged in both cask and French oak, while the single-vineyard bottlings only see barrique, but the oak influence is much lower than it was when Grimaldi first burst onto the scene in the late 1990s.
