Silvia Altare has done a terrific job with her 2014 Barolos. The Cannubi and Ceretta are especially notable, but then again, 2014 is a year in which the very best sites have an upper hand. As always, Altare favors very short fermentations that last about three-and-a-half days (that is not a typo). The malolactic fermentations are done in steel and the wines age in French oak, around 20% new for the single-vineyard wines. In 2014, Altare did not produce their Barolo Unoperuno. I also tasted three recently bottled 2015s: Larigi, Giarborina and La Villa, which are reviewed here.
