There was the risk in 2008 that grapes affected by millerandage could rot on the inside and give notes of surmaturite, said Vincent Morey, who therefore felt that his Chassagne-Montrachet and Batard-Montrachet were more fragile cuvees in 2008. Morey, who normally stirs the lees until the malos, did more batonnage than usual because the secondary fermentations were later. But all the wines had been racked and unified-and sulfured-by the time of my visit. Incidentally, Vincent makes his wines at his father Bernard's house in the hamlet of Morgeot, while Thomas has his wines in Bernard's old cellar in the center of Chassagne-Montrachet.
