Thibault Liger-Belair was a very late harvester in 2013, starting on October 10. His vineyards mostly yielded 28 to 32 hectoliters per hectare of fruit and he noted that there wasn't much rot in the crus. Liger-Belair told me that he was very surprised by the density of the wines that materialized during élevage. But the 2014s are still denser, he added, even if the 2013s are more tannic. Liger-Belair works with minimal sulfur, bottling his wines with only about 15 parts per million free sulfur and a very low 25 ppm total sulfur. He uses a higher quantity of CO2 to preserve his wines in bottle.

Thibault Liger-Belair picked later for fuller maturity even at the risk of having more rot. He started on October 6 in Nuits-Saint-Georges, skipped October 9 and 10 due to heavy rain on the 9th, and then finished up in another two days. It was "un millésime du deux temps," he told me, with the grapes on the middle and top of the hillsides harvested in very good health. As has been his practice in recent years, he vinified with a significant portion of whole clusters, but not with his fruit from calcaire soil, as that "results in conflicting types of minerality and gives the wines a vegetal aspect."
