Bernard Mollard describes 1997 as a pleasing crop of wines. He was concerned at the outset by low acidity levels, but told me they now appear to be well balanced "a bit in the style of '94, but less flabby. They will be easy wines to drink." Yields were in the vicinity of 50 hectoliters per hectare, or slightly less than those of the previous harvest, according to Mollard, one of Chassagne more candid vignerons when it comes to discussing production figures. None of the '97s were racked, with the exception of the Chassagne Montrachet Virondot.
