Andrea Oberto's 2013s show just as well from bottle as they did from cask. As always, Oberto does a fine job with wines that sit in a very comfortable spot between modern and traditional styles. Above all else, these Barolos reflect the best of Piedmont's artisan tradition that is so rooted in a deep connection to the land.

Andrea Oberto is one of Piedmont's old school vignerons, the generation of producers for whom the focus has always been more in the field than in the cellar. The 2013s spent 12-15 days on the skins. The malo were done in steel and the wines were aged in a combination of cask and French oak barriques. Oberto is among the producers who chose to give his top wines a little extra time in barrel. The wines have long occupied a comfortable spot in the middle of the stylistic spectrum.
