Andrea and Fabio Oberto's 2012 Barolos are some of the richest, most pliant wines of the vintage. Fabio Oberto gave his 2012s 10-15 days on the skins, with malolactic fermentation in new French oak and aging mostly in 16HL and 25HL casks. At their best, the Oberto Barolos offer terrific quality and personality in an attractive, contemporary style. Over the last decade, fermentations have become a bit longer, while the influence of new French oak has come down. This small, family-run winery remains one of the Piedmont estate with the most latent potential. It will be interesting to see where Fabio Oberto takes things in the coming years.
