Usseglio’s 2019 Deux Frères is one of the most impressive wines that I have tried from that vintage, with the caveat that those looking for understatement will likely demur. But that has long been the case with this domaine’s wines, which are far from shy, especially in warm or hot vintages like 2019 and pretty much every year for a while now. On the other hand, fans of a flamboyant (but not oaky) rendition of Châteauneuf-du-Pape are going to adore the 2018s and 2019s. Readers whose tastes are more prudish have plenty of other options that can be of equally high quality, just in a different style.
