Winemaker Bob Cabral describes the Williams-Selyem 2001s as lush, fruit-forward wines with plenty of early sex appeal. In comparison, he says, "the 1999s and some of the 2000s are bruisers, although some of the 2000s are quite aromatic." Cabral noted that 2001 was a very good but perhaps not outstanding vintage on the Sonoma Coast north of Cazadero, due to a full crop load following a quick, even flowering and very warm weather leading up to the harvest. This year there will be just two zinfandel bottlings, down from five in 2000.
