German pinot noir is not yet a household name in the U.S., but anyone who has tasted the wines from this estate will be converted for life. Not only are they Burgundian in style, but better than much of what is produced there. In 2009 Becker also made a chardonnay that merits close attention. If you have never have heard of this estate, search out one of the three pinot noirs shown below-or even the "B", which at $45 a bottle will provide an introduction to Becker's style. Also recommended: 2009 Weissburgunder Kalkgestein (86), 2009 Weissburgunder Enggasse (88), 2009 Muskateller (85), 2009 Chardonnay (92), 2009 Schweigener Sonnenberg Riesling Grosses Gewachs (87), 2009 Riesling Holzgasse (88), 2008 Spatburgunder "B" (86), 2008 Spatburgunder Kalkgestein (88), 2008 Spatburgunder Steinwingert (89), 2008 Spatburgunder Herrschaftswingert (91), 2008 Spatburgunder Herrschaftswingert SL (91), 2008 Spatburgunder Res (95). Other wines tasted: 2009 Riesling Laissez Faire.
