Winemaker Andreas Barth had another successful year in 2012, even if the year is not of quite the same caliber as the excellent 2011 vintage here.Now owned by Günther Jauch, a famous television personality whose grandmother was a von Othegraven, this estate is beginning to reclaim the prestige it enjoyed a generation ago when its wines were consistently among the finest produced on the Saar. At that time, the Altenberg vineyard in Kanzem was considered by many to be of equal stature to--or even better than--the neighboring Scharzhofberg.
