After struggling with the difficult 2010 vintage, winemaker Andreas Barth made the ambitions of this old estate crystal-clear in 2011. Now owned by Gunther Jauch, a famous television personality whose grandmother was a von Othegraven, this property is poised to reclaim the prestige it enjoyed a generation ago when its wines were consistently among the finest produced on the Mosel, Saar or Ruwer. At that time, the Altenberg vineyard in Kanzem was considered by many to be of equal stature with or even better than the neighboring Scharzhofberg.
