Due to his father's illness, Maximilian von Kunow returned in 2010 to Oberemmel to take over the reins at his family's estate. And his first vintage is an unmitigated success, with the off-dry Scharzhofberger Riesling Spatlese and delicately sweet Kabinett from the same site being among the finest of their ilk in all of Germany. He is convinced that this is only the beginning of a new phase in this property's already illustrious history, with biodynamic viticulture and spontaneous fermentations to play an important role in future development. For those unfamiliar with the Saar, this is an excellent place to start as this estate excels with the kind of off-dry, subtly appealing wines that we're all more likely to drink on a regular basis.
