This reliable estate again turned out a number of first-class rieslings in 2009, particularly in the categories I like to drink. Their Scharzhofberger Kabinett is an ode to finesse and the Spatlese Feinherb from the Horecker site in Kanzem, which the family acquired about ten years ago, is one of the finest off-dry wines of the vintage. As I have written before, m y scores may not appear high, here or elsewhere, but these are eminently drinkable wines that I would enjoy having in my cellar. Also recommended: 2009 Scharzhofberger Riesling Spatlese Trocken (86), 2009 Scharzhofberger Riesling Auslese * (89). Other wines tasted: 2009 Oberemmeler Hutte Riesling Kabinett Trocken, 2009 Oberemmeler Riesling Kabinett Feinherb.
