This lineup from Testarossa and proprietors Rob and Diana Jensen is super-impressive. Testatarossa makes a number of Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs from various appellations within the Central Coast, but all of the wines are listed here for ease of reference. Winemaker Bill Brosseau is one of the most thoughtful young winemakers in California, and it shows in these wines. Brosseau responded to the challenges of the vintage by pressing more gently. The 2011s generally saw lower amounts of new oak than is the norm here, and toast levels were also reduced, all in an effort to match cooperage to the qualities of the fruit. What counts most, though, is what is in the bottle, and there is plenty to admire on that front. As is the case throughout California, the Chardonnays are more consistent than the Pinots. The Jensens have one more secret weapon, and it is access to fruit from the Brosseau family's vineyard. Not surprisingly, the Brosseau Pinot and Chardonnay are some of the most gorgeous wines in the range.
