Johannes Selbach had not originally expected 2005 to be the great vintage that it turned out to be. With the exception of a few dry wines, 2006 has turned out even better for him. I rated 13 of his rieslings 90 points or higher, and several of them were among the standouts of the vintage. His only regret was that "I didn't have more of the bright, crisp kabinetts that my clients want to drink." He should know, for as I wrote last year, as a tireless promoter of German riesling, he has seen time and again what wine lovers actually drink after they stand up from a blind tasting.
