Salicutti has recovered from the past growing pains since the purchase of the winery by the Eichbauer family. With the 2020 vintage, the estate’s fans once again treated to a Rosso di Montalcino. Although not from the single vineyard Sorgente parcel (that is now its own Brunello), the Rosso represents the house style without having to get to the Brunello. As for the 2019s, they are gorgeous, yet also in need of cellaring to find their balance. Combining biodynamics and transparent winemaking adds purity to this estate’s wines. During this trip, I was delighted to revisit the 2016 Brunello Piaggione. Since my first tasting in 2020, the wine has improved dramatically and turned into a brilliant interpretation of the vineyard and vintage.
