The new wines presented by Salicutti show that the estate is indeed back on the right track. Consumers sorely felt the upgrade to from Rosso to Brunello for the Sorgente with the 2015 vintage. However, with the 2018 releases, it is clear that this was a wise decision for owner Sabine Eichbauer. In addition, the market for the 2017 Brunello di Montalcino Teatro reaffirms that Salicutti was one of the standout producers from the vintage. When speaking about 2018, Sabine Eichbauer explained that it was crucial to them that the wine was made more in the vineyards than the cellar, focusing intently on biodynamics and maintaining the vines health through humid conditions. The growing season lowered production, so Eichbauer decided not to bottle a Teatro in 2018, but instead to use the juice in the Rosso. Maceration times were lowered between 25-30 days down from 40 due to the natural characteristics of the harvested fruit. The resulting wines are gorgeous, full of energy and vivid fruit. Plus, for those still missing the Sorgente Rosso di Montalcino, Salicutti plans to release an estate (non-single-vineyard) Brunello starting in 2019 that will be offered at more favorable price point than the top wines.
