I can't think of another producer in Montalcino over the last few years who is hot as Francesco Leanza at Salicutti. Simply put, these wines have never been more beautiful. The tiny, cramped winery is as no-frills as they come. Most of the emphasis is on the pristine hillside vineyards that surround the property. In the cellar, the approach is pretty minimalist, which allows the qualities of the three sites Salicutti works with to truly shine. Leanza ages his Rosso and Brunello in a combination of small, medium and large casks, all made from French oak. Readers looking for great examples of artisan, traditionally made wines will find a lot to get excited about in these wines.
