Tom Rochioli has been at the top of the game for longer than most. I was really quite struck by Rochioli's total sense of humility as he discussed the wines that influenced him in the early days during this tasting, along with his constant desire to always improve. In recent years, Rochioli has gradually moved towards a style that favors more finesse than in the past. Picking is a bit earlier, while the Pinots see a dollop of whole cluster in fermentation. The long growing season was absolutely ideal for these wines and that approach, so it's not much of a surprise that the 2018s are positively stellar across the board.
