The 2018 Syrahs are the unquestioned stars among these new releases from Peay. Once again, the quality and consistency of the 2018 vintage is on full display. The 2019 Pinots are a bit more nervy than the 2018s, and are likely to need a few years in bottle to unwind. Yields are down, as mildew required stringent selection. Vanessa Wong crafts these wines with a delicate hand, and that is especially apparent in 2019, a year in which the Pinots are quite transparent. As always, the Peay Pinots are built on energy more than size. Whole clusters and new oak are used sparingly. In 2019, the Peays did not bottle their Elanus selections. The Viognier and Chardonnay Estate were not part of this tasting, but I will add notes as soon as I have a chance to taste the wines.
