The long fermentation times that characterized many of the wines of 2015 plagued Ostertag too. For that reason, André Ostertag did not pour the 2015 Pinot Blanc Barriques during my visit since it had fermented very slowly and wasn’t quite finished. Also, his Muscat was still in élévage as Ostertag, fearing that the hot year might lead to an aromatically-challenged wines, decided to leave it longer on the lees to gain greater aromatic complexity. Overall, I found Ostertag’s many different wines made from the Fronholz site to be especially to my liking last summer. They all share an iodiney, highly mineral and strong vertical spine that is recognizable across varieties.
