Down in the deepest Savigny-lès-Beaune, Canadian and American-born respectively, Colleen and Nick Harbour have established themselves as two of the finer young négociants. With their debut in 2013, they have established stronger relationships with growers than others that have sprouted around the Côte d’Or in the last couple of years. However, Harbour clearly has to tussle with some sources to obtain fruit that was so scarce in 2021, and of course, as buyers, their business is sensitive to rising prices.
“The problem in 2021 was the pricing, which wasn’t a surprise,” Nick Harbour tells me. “Some producers tried to sell more in 2022 at the same price.” Nick Harbour is deeply involved with managing their vines rather than doing the minimum. Whilst not the most robust set because of the growing season, these wines are still worth investigating, and they’ll be back and firing on all cylinders next year.
