Never one to sit still for too long, Giorgio Rivetti has plenty going on these days, including the resurrection of Contratto, one of Piedmont's most historic wineries. Back at La Spinetta, the 2012 Barolos are quite pretty. Rivetti has dialed back the French oak which is allowing the personality of his vineyard in Grinzane Cavour to come through more directly than in the past. The 2012s are some of the most delicate Barolos I have tasted here. It will be interesting to see if that is the vintage speaking, or if the estate is indeed moving towards a slightly more restrained style.
